In this episode of Tales From the Riff, I am joined by my good friend and fellow Norwegian metal festival enthusiast- Mr. Tommy Anthony. Tommy is a founding member of the dark atmospheric group Tribes of Medusa. Tribes of Medusa (ToM) is a project that is inspired by Scandinavian acts of the same genre. There are hints of doom, gothic and black metal. The music is utterly haunting and its hard to nail down. ToM is an experience unlike any other and I am proud to have Tommy on the podcast to tell his story.

The fine gentlemen of Lafayette's own Grievings join Moe for another exclusive origin story. The round table discussion was rounded out with band members Ben, D.J., and Ricky. A power trio that leaves everything out on the stage. Ear splitting drums, heavy low end and all the riffs for days. Ricky Lafleur who pulls double duty of lead guitar work and vocals was emphatic that their music often resonates with those of the black metal variety and I find myself in total agreement with the man. Back again with another extreme black metal band that has a hint of death from Mandeville, Louisiana. I join the mighty Gnashing in their rehearsal space. I chat with Chris, Brennan, Erik and Taylor. The four piece outfit is one to dig into if you find yourself a fan of blackened death metal. Collectively, the band grew up listening to everything thrash metal. From the likes of Metallica to things as progressive as Opeth, ISIS and TOOL. They have concocted their own blackened death metal offering that is seasoned with shreddy leads and pummeling riffs.
